Description
The Assistance to Rural Law Enforcement to Combat Crime and Drugs Competitive Grant Program helps rural states and rural areas to prevent and combat crime, especially drug-related crime and provides for national support efforts, including training and technical assistance programs, strategically targeted to address rural needs. In addition to fulfilling the program-specific purposes, projects funded under the Recovery Act should be designed to further one or more of the general purposes of the Recovery Act, which are to preserve and create jobs and promote economic recovery; to assist those most impacted by the recession; to provide investments needed to increase economic efficiency by spurring technological advances in science and health; to invest in transportation, environmental protection, or other infrastructure that will provide long-term economic benefits; and to stabilize State and local government budgets, in order to minimize and avoid reductions in essential services and counterproductive State and local tax increases.
