About GrantUnlock

GrantUnlock is a free, open database that aggregates US government grant programs from multiple official sources into one searchable platform. Our goal is to make it easy for small businesses, nonprofits, researchers, and individuals to find grants they qualify for.

Why We Built This

Government grants represent billions of dollars in funding available to American businesses and organizations each year. But finding these opportunities is unnecessarily difficult. Federal grants are scattered across Grants.gov, SAM.gov, SBIR.gov, and dozens of state agency websites — each with different formats, search interfaces, and update schedules.

GrantUnlock brings all of this into one place. We aggregate data from 8 official sources, normalize it into a consistent format, and make it searchable by category, agency, state, funding amount, and deadline.

Our Data Sources

All grant data on GrantUnlock comes from official US government sources:

  • Grants.gov — Daily XML extract of all federal grant opportunities
  • SBIR.gov — Small Business Innovation Research and STTR awards
  • SAM.gov — Federal Assistance Listings (formerly CFDA catalog)
  • USASpending.gov — Federal assistance program reference data
  • SSBCI — State Small Business Credit Initiative programs from the US Treasury
  • State portals — California (grants.ca.gov), Pennsylvania (DCED), New York (ESD)

How We Keep Data Fresh

Our data pipeline runs daily. We re-download the Grants.gov XML extract (updated every morning by the federal government), cross-reference with SAM.gov eligibility data, and automatically mark expired grants. Grant details, deadlines, and funding amounts are pulled directly from official sources — we do not editorialize or modify the original data.

Important Disclaimer

GrantUnlock is an independent project and is not affiliated with any government agency. While we strive for accuracy, grant information can change without notice. Always verify eligibility requirements, deadlines, and application procedures on the official program website before applying. We link directly to the official Grants.gov listing for every grant.
